We live in a time when a lot of brand “activism” is done for show — social justice buzzwords, curated photo ops, and vague promises that lead nowhere. That’s not what we do. We started SUSUBU not to check a box, but because we saw a real need — and knew we could do something about it.
Silver nursing cups aren’t new. They’ve existed in different forms for decades. But when we created SUSUBU, the goal wasn’t innovation — it was intention. We used what we know best — jewelry, metals, and craftsmanship — to build something that not only works, but holds meaning. A product that’s beautiful not just in how it looks, but in what it does.
SO WHAT IS SUSUBU, EXACTLY?
SUSUBU are silver nursing cups designed to help breastfeeding mothers heal and feel supported. Made from recycled silver, they provide antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory care — naturally. They help prevent and soothe cracked, sore nipples, which often cause mothers to give up breastfeeding earlier than they’d hoped.
To be clear: there’s no shame in choosing not to breastfeed. Sometimes it’s not a choice at all, and of course, fed is always better than not. But for mothers who want to breastfeed and are struggling, support should be easily accessible.
SUSUBU is built to last. They’re strong, easy to clean, and can be passed down — a functional keepsake tied to a deeply personal experience. Like everything else we make, they’re crafted with obsessive attention to detail, by the same hands that create our fine jewelry.
WHY WE GIVE BACK
We launched SUSUBU on International Women’s Day — which also happened to be CARINA HARDY’s first anniversary. It felt right. From day one, we committed to donating pairs of SUSUBU to Bumi Sehat, a foundation that offers free natural birth and family care in Bali and beyond.
This is a long-term commitment — not just a one-off donation. We do this every 6 months. Not because we need PR, and not out of charity guilt. But because if you’re in a position to contribute, you should. Period.
Bumi Sehat, and it's founder, Ibu Robin, are especially close to me. I started volunteering there when I was 15 — delivering babies, learning first-hand about what women go through, and what they’re capable of. That experience never left me. It shaped how I see the world, and how I want to show up in it.
Over the years, I’ve channeled that into everything from my doula certification to our Back to the Breast installation, to silver milk drop brooches we created during a past Breastfeeding Week. SUSUBU is just the next step — a continuation of the same mission.
We didn’t set out to launch a product. We set out to help. And if we can use our craft to do that — to make something practical, dignified, and lasting — we’re exactly where we’re meant to be.
SUSUBU is available on our website when you’re called to donate to Bumi Sehat or to bless someone expecting a little one of their own.
